Prior to the adoption of 2.34.025 (Ord. 2285) on 08/02/2004, Chapter 2.34.025 read as follows.

    Appointed police officers of the city are required to be residents of the city at the time of their appointment; except that, the city council of the city may grant a newly hired police officer a period of up to six months (one hundred eighty (180) days), commencing with the date of that officer’ s appointment, to become a resident and registered voter of the city; and, except further, the city council may thereafter extend the grace period for residency in the city for a period of time not to exceed one additional six month (one hundred eighty (180) day) period for a newly hired police officer to become a resident and registered voter of the city, for good cause shown. In all cases, an appointed city police officer must be resident and registered voter of the city within twelve (12) months (three hundred sixty-five (365) days) from the date of their appointment.
